AI voice dictation

AI voice dictation that works in every app

TapWisper is a free, open-source AI dictation app for Mac and Windows. Hold a shortcut key in any app, speak, and let go: your speech is transcribed, cleaned of filler words, punctuated, matched to the app's tone and pasted at your cursor — in email, chat, documents, code editors or the browser.

How it works

Three steps. That’s it.

01.

Hold your key

Hold fn on Mac, Ctrl + Win on Windows or Right Ctrl on Linux in any text field. Add Space while holding to go hands-free.

02.

Speak naturally

Pause, ramble or correct yourself. TapWisper only listens while you hold the key.

03.

Let go

Your words are transcribed, cleaned up and pasted where your cursor is.

Details

What you should know.

Works in any app
TapWisper pastes at the cursor, so it works anywhere you can type: Slack, Gmail, Outlook, Notion, Google Docs, Linear, Cursor, VS Code, WhatsApp, terminals and browsers.
Push-to-talk or hands-free
Hold to talk and release to paste, or lock hands-free mode for longer dictation. Esc cancels. Every shortcut can be changed in Settings.
History and stats
Every dictation is saved and searchable on your device, with the original “as heard” text. Replay the audio, copy, transcribe again, and track words, words per minute, streak and time saved.
Your choice of model
Use cloud models with your own API key, open-source models that run on your computer, or your own server.

FAQ

Good questions.

How do I dictate into any app on Mac?

Install TapWisper, grant microphone and accessibility access, then hold the fn (Globe) key in any text field, speak, and release. Your text is pasted at the cursor.

Is TapWisper better than built-in dictation?

Built-in dictation types what it hears. TapWisper also removes filler words, fixes punctuation, adapts tone to the app, lets you edit selected text by voice, and lets you choose the speech and language models.

Does TapWisper work on Windows?

Yes. TapWisper runs on Windows 10 and 11; the default shortcut is holding Ctrl + Win.
